Welcome to Caro's Crochet

Hi, I'm Caroline, I am a stay-at-home Mum to three little girls. I love to crochet and have been wrapped up in the cosy world of crochet for the last three years. I learnt how to crochet when my youngest was 4 months old. I needed something to occupy my mind while I was confined to the sofa feeding the baby as the other two girls watched kids' TV.

I watched YouTube videos and used beginners' crochet books to learn about the basic techniques. After getting the hang of a granny square and the double crochet stitch I then trawled the internet for more lovely stitches to try. I love colours and found so much inspiration on Facebook groups and crochet blogs that I became utterly enthralled by crochet. I also began my yarn addiction, which has given rise to my lovely squishy yarn hoard.

So, welcome to Caro's Crochet, a blog about yarn and colourful crafting. I will present my works in progress, enthuse about gorgeous yarn and talk about colour combinations.

I will also write about my ventures into the world of sewing. I have long been scared of the sewing machine that I was given, having never used one before in my life. I couldn't even get my head around how the machine managed to stitch the material together. The only sewing I'm familiar with is the needle and thread kind which I use to sew the children's name labels in their school uniforms.

I have always admired other people's beautiful sewing and been a fan of pretty prints so I really wanted to overcome my fears and get sewing. I have now managed to thread the machine (after much swearing) and become informed about bobbins (I had always wondered about what the nursery rhyme "Wind the Bobbin" was all about). I've learnt all about seam allowances and batting and now I am raring to start some new creations. I have also developed a new addiction - pretty fat quarters, I am starting to build up quite a stash already.

Crochet: Work in progress

This week I have started working on a baby blanket. I wanted to use two of my favourite Stylecraft Special DK shades, duck egg and storm blue. I added silver to them and decided that a blue shade would work well with the combination. I had a new skein of denim in my stash and this toned in beautifully with the other three colours. I decided on the neat ripple pattern by Attic24.

I'm making a small version that will fit in a Moses basket or can be tucked in over a baby car seat. The ripples and the blue and green tones made me think of the ocean, so the blanket's working title is....'The ocean blanket'! I will try to think of something more original when it's finished.

Here is the blanket so far...

Thanks for visiting, I will be back soon when hopefully the Ocean blanket will be finished, and I will have some new crochet to share :)
